The flag of France is a tricolour flag featuring three vertical bands of equal width. The bands are coloured blue, white, and red. The blue band is on the hoist side, the white band is in the middle, and the red band is on the fly side. The flag is sometimes called the "Bleu-Blanc-Rouge" (Blue-White-Red) or the "Tricolore". The flag was adopted as the national flag of France in 1794 and has been the flag of the French Republic since then.
